The 1998 adventure, completely remade

Announced during the Zelda 40th Anniversary Nintendo Direct on September 8, where Eiji Aonuma showed the first gameplay, this remake follows Link’s journey across time, through its dungeons and temples. Nintendo promises completely overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue and an orchestral score.

What changes in your hands

  • Jump freely over obstacles and gaps with the press of a button.
  • A new dash to cover long distances on foot.
  • Swap weapons and items on the fly, without opening the menu.
  • Motion aiming with the slingshot, the bow and other tools.
  • Play the ocarina with the buttons… or by humming the songs into the Switch 2 microphone.
  • A “Threads of Time” menu to recap the story, check your objectives and admire a grand tapestry.

The day-night cycle, riding Epona and era-specific items are all back.

A Zelda-themed console

For the occasion, a Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition launches on October 29, with a matching Pro Controller and carrying case, all bearing the Triforce. Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo follow in 2027: they unlock retro-style masks in the game.
